Getting Arty

Getting Arty

We had an interesting, arty weekend and visited the Pimlico Academy in South Westminster for a private event. This is part of the Future’s Academy family and is specialises in Art and History. We know some find Academies controversial; however we were really impressed with the building and the vibe. It was almost like being in a community art centre or gallery. It filled me with joy and I think that more schools should adopt this – at least in part.
It took me ages to leave as I was checking out all the excellent artwork all over the hallways and the final quote plaque on leaving the building was this:
“The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.”
This is a quote by Emile Zola. He was French writer, journalist, playwright and political activist who lived 1840-1902. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature for two years running and lived a life of struggle exposing hard truths of his time.
This is such a poignant quote from Emile Zola – as a creative, you can dwell in your creative dreams for years, and build magnificence in your head. But it is quite a waste of time, without action. Decisive action and intention must be thought and delivered upon each week to make headway with your dreams.
Happy dreaming people – make that call and write that plan!
