Memories of a magical ballroom

California ballroom Exhibition

Priory House Heritage Centre, Dunstable

Open until Saturday, December 8, 10am-4pm (excluding Sundays)

Olympian Productions have teamed up with Dunstable Town Council to present the California Ballroom Exhibition.

During the 1940s, the California Ballroom was a music/concert venue based at the bottom of Dunstable Downs and originally hosted swimming baths, followed by go-karting, car racing and rollerskating.

The ballroom was built during the late 1950s and its official opening was on March 12, 1960. Once the doors opened, the crowds got to see stars such as Stevie Wonder, Ike and Tina Turner, Ben E King, Diana Ross, Lulu, The Rolling Stones and Al Green.

On display at the exhibition will be many artefacts from original posters, wall décor, Stevie Wonder’s cufflink, signed contracts, photos and much more.

The event is free and you can visit more for details.
